In Cuenca a lot of the mercados are super-mercados instead of just regular mercados that are in the open air. Super-mercados are fancy mercados that are in covered buildings with nice tile floors. Well most of them have nice tiled floors. It is still quite similar to outdoor mercados where there are stands where everybody has their own little area to sell their merchandise. The stands are called “puestos” in Spanish.
They had quite a few different stands for…… vegetable, herbs, sweets, places to eat, and fruit. They had many different types of fruit that I have never seen before such as ….yellow dragon fruit, this whitish greenish color fruit, this little red fruit that was a little bigger than a cherry and many more. It is interesting to see different types of fruit that are not grown in the United States.
